Question:
What is The Importance of Kitten and Cat Play?

Answer:
Kittens learn how to hunt, kill, fight and flight initially from play. Kittens begin play fight with littermates around six weeks of age. Early play provides healthy exercise and important social skills.

Don’t allow your kitten to express this natural behavior by play biting or scratching your hands or legs or you may end up with an aggressive cat. It’s harder to change the rules as your kitten grows.

Instead, select a variety of toys for interactive play with your cat. Let the toy be the target not you. Keep play real. Move a feather toys like a bird, laser light like a bug, string like a mouse tail! This allows your kitten to exercise natural behaviors in acceptable ways. Keep play interesting by varying the game and toy every 5 minutes. Allow your cat to win by pouncing on the object. Toss a treat in here or there to let the cat “win” and eat the captured prey.
