Petmate is reducing our carbon footprint by preventing over 60 million pounds of waste from ever reaching a landfill every year. The bulk comes from what’s known as “post-industrial” waste. When another manufacturer makes a product deemed defective, it would otherwise end up in a waste heap somewhere before ever reaching a consumer’s hands. That’s where we come into play.

How It Works

Our award-winning 55,000-square-foot Spectrum Polymers facility in Mansfield, Texas has decades of experience and is equipped with the latest technologies to identify those unused products. Following environmental guidelines, we then process this post-industrial pre-consumer waste into our EcoTEC™ resin material which has a 1:1 ratio of resin produced to waste and is incorporated into over 60% of the products we make, right here in the USA.

Reducing Our Carbon Footprint

Working alongside our retail partners, including Walmart’s Project Gigaton, our recycling efforts have helped remove 118 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions since 2019. Our goal by the end of 2023 is to increase our diversion of various plastic waste by an additional 10%.

There’s Waste From What You Make Though, Right?

Yes, there is. With manufacturing, anything becomes leftovers. But we take great pride in the fact that over 90% of all scrap is recycled for additional purposes. And when it comes to our machinery, any new investment in equipment must equate to a 15% reduction in energy usage.
